In order to be an exhibitor in the Sawdust Art Festival, you first have to be a resident in Laguna for at least two years, with the Sawdust requiring seven different forms of proof. Next, you have to have your artwork approved. Once you have cleared these two hurdles, you then wait for Lottery Day, and your position in line for choosing a booth location.
During the month of February, generally on a Saturday, a lottery will be held (sort of like drawing names out of a hat) to determine the order in which people can choose their booth locations for that year’s upcoming summer show. The longer you have been in the show, the better your chances are for a “good” booth, and there are probably as many opinions of what constitutes a good booth as there are exhibitors.
During the early part of May, we have Booth Pick Day, were we chose our booth location, and immediately proceeding Booth Pick Day we start building our booths. The booths are torn down after each WinterFest, (our holiday show) and then rebuilt before each summer’s show. It’s quite a production.
Dates for the 2024 Sawdust are Friday, June 28 through Sunday, September 1 Hours are 11 am-8 pm Sunday through Thursday, and on Friday and Saturday the hours are 11 am to 10 pm. Here’s a drone video from the 2014 show. It’s fun - I think you’ll enjoy it.
If anyone has any questions about the show, or if I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me, either by email or at 949-510-5272.
And, for those of you who have never seen what the Sawdust looks like without any booths, here is a panorama of the Sawdust grounds before any construction begins.
Thanks, and I look forward to seeing you this summer.
