For everyday shooting and driving around the Laguna Beach area I always have my Olympus OMD-EM1 Mirrorless Micro Four-Thirds camera with me with a 17mm f/1.8 prime lens (35mm equivalent). If I’m traveling to Los Angeles or San Diego for the day I will also take my Nikon D850 with a 24-70mm f/2.8 zoom - a great lens. And I always carry a few cleaning cloths, CF and SD cards, batteries and business cards with me.
For weekend shoots around the area, trips to Joshua Tree or the Salton Sea, or trips up Coast Highway, I generally have the following in my bag:
Nikon D810 Nikon D850 Olympus OMD-EM1 Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 Zoom Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 Zoom Olympus 17mm f/1.8 Lens (35mm equivalent)
Lens Cleaning Materials Extra Batteries Polarizer Filter ND4 and ND10 Netural Density Filters Lexar SD and CF Cards (several of each) Tripod Monopod Rain Gear (if necessary) Headlamp
For longer trips (mainly my road trips) I add the following:
Nikon D500 Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 Zoom Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6 Zoom Laptop WD 3TB External Hard Drive (Two - one as a second back-up) Card Reader Business Cards Sleeping Bag Lots of Water Binoculars
For racing events, I primarily use my Nikon D3 with the 70-200mm f/2.8 lens, and my D500 with the 200-500mm f/5.6 lens, my monopod only, no ND filters, and my Black Rapid camera straps. For close-ups with a shorter lens I use my Olympus OMD-EM1 with a 35mm equivalent lens.
