Another “Bucket List” trip to check off. I completed an 18 day trip to Namibia with a short layover and evening tour in Doha, Qatar - the entire trip including travel time encompassed approximately 25 days. Namibia was another of those “bucket list” trips that was in the top five places I wanted to visit and photograph. The actual trip involved my driving approximately 1,600 miles (2,600 kilometers) in a rented Nissan SUV 4WD, starting in Windhoek. You can check out my map below. (I started the rip in Windhoek and went in a clockwise direction.) I explored Kolmanskop (an abandoned diamond mining town and one of my favorite places), Sossusvlei, Deadvlei, the Skeleton Coast, the sand dunes outside Walvis Bay - home of one of the world’s best surfing breaks (Donkey Bay, but it was flat) and the Zeila shipwreck. It was a great trip! The trip started with my departing from Los Angeles on Saturday, January 19, 2019 and returning back home on February 12th - a total of approximately 25 days. Driving on the “wrong” side of the road - at least for me - is always a challenge, but I’m happy to report no issues, and NO FLATS either, considering I would estimate my driving on gravel/dirt roads for a distance of at least 1,000 miles. I would be happy to share my experiences with anyone contemplating a trip to Namibia, and offer some suggestions which might help make your trip extra-special. In my opinion Namibia is definitely a highly recommended destination. (Note: More images to come.) See this page for more Kolmanskop images. Trip planned by Expert Africa. Namibia was one of my all time favorite trips. Highly recommended.
